The Circle Tour Day 1 - 2022/06/06

It was a great start, I believe that I was riding out the driveway at 8:30.  A later start for me than I often make but there were some homefront things to take care of before leaving and the later takeoff did no harm whatsoever.

My Planned trip destination came, left, came again....fell apart and finally materialized.  I'm doing a counterclockwise loop around my beloved Wisconsin...only two border crossings for me!  Here's how today went.....

Crossing into Wisconsin at Red Wing.

Maiden Rock....

Stockholm....

Lake Pepin...

Alma....

 Buffalo City....

Whitman Swamp....the location of my Kenny Salwey River Rat books.

I visited the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge again....it had been awhile.

On the edge of the road....he was a big fella!

Perrot State Park....

 Cassville.....

Irish Ridge....my first time on this road was while starting the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail on the TW200.

 Petosi....

Tuesday I'll be heading East....

  1. Hay Coop!

This is an awesome trip idea. :) I just got back from enjoying Marinette County parks, the waterfall capitol of WI. Long Slide Falls, and Smalley Falls off of 8 south of Iron Mountain was a highlight and well worth a visit!
I look forward to following along on this one!

High Cliff park on the North East Side of Winnebago is one of my favorites also, as are the Dunes at Kohler Andrae.

    Safe travels,

    Jason

    1. We'll see how things go, I'm trying to not plan too far ahead but slowing down with an extra day up there is very appealing. Thanks for the waterfall tips, I'll see what I can do.

  2. Jason, I remember you mentioning both! My brother and I frolicked in the water at Andrae way back before it was Kohler. This time I think I'll stay further east, away from the big lake in the valley closer to the bigger lake nearby.

Initially I thought I'd focus just on the NE quadrant since I've spent so little time there....it was a struggle making up my mind and Sunday night I still wasn't sure. I'm now thinking that far corner when it's cooler, the bugs are gone and tenting will be more fun, that area the focus.

I'm not done with Wisconsin. And thank you!

  3. So many fun things to see and do, the unplanned adventures are the best. I was lucky enough to have grown up just north of Milwaukee and to have been in Scouting for many years. We've visited a lot of good parks in that area.

    Have a fantastic trip!
