This Is How.......

That's the way Steve's text started.....and here's the rest of it that he sent to me.

"This is how you take your Bert Munro imitation to the salt flats to run....."

I saw the Minnesota plates on that pretty black Gold Wing and knew that I didn't know anything about the bike, who it was, etc.

My text back to Steve, "FROM Minnesota??"

Then this came back....

"Jason and his girlfriend 2up to the salt flats from west of Mpls.  Works for a body shop.  Brian the owner, a friend of mine, rode out with them on his HD so I know it's true."

My text quickly back to Steve, "This should be a blog post".

He then responded with 2 more photos and a, "we should go".

From there a bit more correspondence and this week, my last one...."Saturday at 10 will be perfect!"

Steve and I were at Diamonds this morning, hearing and contributing to some of the tallest tales yet shared there over coffee and we weren't even finished but needed to get going to make the hour-long trip to Jason's place.

Before going into the shop, we got a tour of the backyard.

Jason's two sons' sandbox.....

and the tree fort....in a very tough-looking tree.

Jason's first trip to Bonneville was as a spectator back in 2010, this photo was later, his first time as a participant.

OLIV had been the tow vehicle of choice, that is until he hit the antelope at 70mph. The HD suffered the majority of the damage, the Scout almost none.  The trailer was on its side in the ditch, a wheel in the air spinning "...just like in the movie.....".   OLIV was then rebuilt, the crunched up front fender hanging on the wall to remind.

The Gold Wing now serving as the tow vehicle.

The unmodified airbox.....

".....the slowest I've ever gone fast...."

Thanks Jason for so graciously sharing your time and story with Steve and me today; you've got two new fans and there's a very good chance at least one of us will see you in Utah this coming September.

Go Fast, make that 150, Go Safe.
