I Got Out

It wasn't much but it was mine,  MY start of the season.

Eric's almost ready for his first oil change but at least I've had one completely warmed up. Made a stop after work at mom's and intended to make 2 more stops on my way home from there but with the bright Daylight time sunny late afternoon and temperate weather, I decided to forego my errands and get the bike out instead.

The first real time I've spent on the ol' '81 Honda 400A and it was a joy.  One more variation on a theme, that theme being a two-wheeled motorized machine.  I'll be anxious to Rally this one somewhere, someplace this summer but for now, I think I'm going to leave it up at mom's while we attempt to clean and declutter.  Saturday mornings at Diamond's will be easier and as my brother commented, "it might be necessary to take a break...blow off some steam" sometimes.

Other than my Tran Zalp, I've not named any of the bikes but I'm tempted to call this one Sparkle.

Marty, the Kenda's are going to be just fine...thanks!

And I am sure that Sparkle has enjoyed the outing as much as you did.

    1. You are so right Sonja, it's a very abnormal start for me. Hopefully I'll get caught up AND surpass!

  4. It's always helpful to keep some free and easy roads in your back pocket for just such an occasion. Glad to see you got out and about.

    1. Thanks Jason. You've captured exactly how I felt yesterday afternoon. Roads so familiar and yet they felt fresh and new again. Never more than 6-7 miles from home.

  5. What's this "start of the season" business then? ;)

Congrats...hoping you have a great one.

    1. Dom, thanks. I know all about your climate and through your photos, how you manage to make weather work FOR you rather than against. Peg's dad is in Denver so we hear about golf intermixed with snow shoveling.

You keep doing what you do!

  6. Start of the season? You must be spending a lot of time with Mom. Those are tiring and rewarding days which you will always value and never forget. Sparkle will wait for you...

    1. Mark, you are correct. She's lamenting the broken patella but seeing more of her little boys than she's seen in years. It's been good.

I'm confident Sparkle gets it; her brother brought it home in the first place. Here's hoping that things are settled enough, reinforcements ready so that the first weekend in May will find me (us?) back on our favorite southern WI roads again.

  7. I think it's ever so important to get out and take a little break from the hum drum of the same routine.
Like how you have named your bikes, I have just the one motorcycle and I am still looking for a good name :)

    1. David, hum drum and routine are fittingly fair though good words to describe the last few weeks with just enough moments in between to make them more pleasant than I might have given them credit for.

I should step aside and let you be the Namer; you've got a knack for such things and that's very obvious. ALL suggestions welcome!

    1. Brandy, we're on our way. Something new this year will be some ridden miles with my very next of kin and I'm looking forward to that. Maybe we'll even be able to park mom's walker and get her on my brother's HD (none of mine are all that pillion friendly). She did many miles with dad.

  9. I usually don't name my bikes... but I have been known to call them names ... names like...%#@##*&..and %$##%^ and the ever popular #$@#!^... and once they start... all is forgiven. :)
