Miles Ridden 2013

My mileage was way down last year and in looking back it seems that I mostly did my usual rallies.  While at those rallies for the most part I rode less and talked more.  I'm hoping to ride more next season while not changing "talk time" and will leave it at that as explanation.

Something I will take pride in is the fairly equal distribution......I have a couple favorite machines but that doesn't really pop out on the chart.  :)

Here's the data intensive breakdown........

  1. Coop I do believe the winter has given you just a little too much time to ... build pie charts!

    1. Karen, I did spend more time with the chart than I had planned. Big G has some interactive html graphing that I was playing with and believed to have mastered but even though it would Preview just fine, it wouldn't Post that way. I went back to the old Excel standby.

  2. Coop, Karen clearly has her hands full even though she isn't riding. It's a mystery.

As a fellow rider from the Hiber nation, I find your pie chart a worthy use for your free time.

Unfortunately, I need a legend for the legend. The only bike I'm certain of is the Helix.

    1. Thanks David, compared to some of my posts, this was a fairly quick one and not a bad way to spend a cold breezy afternoon.

  3. Ten bikes! One seems to be my limit. There should be pictures with the list. I.e. larger info graphic...

    1. Richard, I struggled just to get the labels and data boxes filled. Peg's an Excel wizard but I was too proud to ask for help. Hopefully I'll have more skills for next year's data.

    1. I'm up and about today, seemingly quite normal though I am still broadly smiling, especially right now. I think I'll be OK :)

  5. Pretty cool chart Doug. Well, cool list of bikes too.

A good number of miles ridden. I didn't keep track of mine last year. Sure I could get them from fuelly.com but why torture myself with the low number, lol.

  6. Thanks Brandy, I meant to make a chart last year ala Chris's version but then never did it. Like you, I was a bit disappointed when I saw the annual total for '13.....it's almost exactly half what I did that 2nd or 3rd year after my 20+ year break from riding.

Hopefully next year will be somewhere in between.

  7. My pie chart would certainly be different, I only have two bikes…

Remember, it's not about the mileage, it's the people you met along the road and the fun you'd have on two wheels.

    1. Sonja, graphs tell a story no matter the number of slices. Yes, you are correct about things found along the road and easy to expect (hope for?) an always direct ratio between miles traveled and people met.

  8. Herr Fritz... (BMW) got used ! ... I know that the previous owner used it to keep the dust off the garage floor... :)

    1. That Black Bavarian Beauty carried me to my first rally of the new season last year and tried to set a precedent......my first BMW rally on an actual BMW.

      May never happen again....:)

  9. Cool! 10 bikes! Wow how do you find the time to ride all of them, I think I would have a hard time making the choice of what to ride.

    1. I try and ride a different one every time that I go out. Actually these totals sort of reflect 1 weekend or 2 since I seldom ride during the week.

  10. My schedule this year is going to put a cramp in my riding aspirations.Sher has lost the urge to want to ride her own bike. And I think Lil Bastard will be up for sale and I'm just going to ride the DR this year.
I'd going to keep the DR and see if she wants to just ride with me again.Might get some sort of FJR,Ninja 1000 or a Tenere or a Triumph Tiger, blah, blah, blah.
But,I'm still figuring on calling the September Tenderloin Ride and some RTE in April/May.

    1. Scott, the DR will take you anywhere you want to go (let me know when you decide to do something about L.B.)

Mark me down for the Tenderloin event and I'll be watching for what transpires this spring. Don't forget to join us in Elkader for the National Guzzi Rally in mid-July.

If nothing else I can stay at the old mans in Clayton for a night. As far as Lil B is concerned.I have an electrical gremlin to figure out.She has OES frame sliders,SW Motech bar risers and pretty much brand new Michelin Pilot Road II's.See my thread on STN in the mods and maintenance area.

  11. Coop:

don't worry about the miles. There are different kinds of miles, enjoyable ones and routine "get to work" ones. The shorter ride may give you greater satisfaction

  12. Coop:

as you know our Government insurance is expensive. Even basic without collision could average around $750 per bike with no discounts for multiple vehicles and another $350. per bike for full coverage. So 10 bikes could cost $1,000 per year for each one. Plus I also have two cars. No way I could afford to have more than one or two and only insure one at a time. Don't forget maintenance.
