An Easter in Bayfield

Though it looks like we won't be making it to Bayfield, WI this year, I'm in a kind of Bayfield mood these days and thought I'd share what it looked like last year.  Over the last few years, our family has enjoyed a winter weather break by heading north to the land of snow, cold and The Big Lake.  It's very much the off-season along the south shore of Lake Superior, the condo's are rented at reduced rates and the area's quiet and solitude are present like few other times of the year.

Appreciating the fact that as our kids have grown, the opportunity to spend the kind of time with all of us being together at once will fade, so we've done what we might to take advantage.  In fact for 2011, there were only 4 of us and though two of the girls weren't there, we found it easy to imagine that they were.  Renting a condo that we've stayed at for multiple trips only enhanced old memories of everyone being there together.

Since Easter is a holiday that can be early or late in the season, we've seen all kinds of weather during our stays.  Spring flowers, deep snow drifts, open water out to Madeline Island or the Ice Road still in use.  This past year's visit had the bay greeting us with what looked like very solid ice in the harbor Friday night when we arrived, though by Saturday morning, break-up was happening fast.

Pup mascot waiting for warmer maritime adventures......

Yes, the Statue of Liberty greeting all who enter (the Yacht Club Harbor)......

Sunny fog....

Sunday afternoon and of course, the rainbow was much more spectacular in person (no, I won't be including audio)..........

Monday morning, where did the ice go??

'Our' condo.......

In the Yacht Club, 2nd floor visitors, obviously hoping for warm(er) lake fun........

Hopefully we'll get back to the South Shore again soon, if we don't do it as a family, I'll most likely be up on one of the bikes.
