Those of you that have been part of my many "no more bikes, most certainly not a new one" diatribes will hopefully be surprised at this.....yes I see your smirks as if your "told you so's" were a powerful force. I would remind you that for 10, at least 10 years I've been hinting at my interest in one of the Chinese mail order, shipped-to-my door machines. This one didn't come from Amazon but it could have. Well there was no assembly, no crate, no trucks, just one big bundle of machine. Eric's shop is local, his answers to my questions complete, his experience with these bikes extensive. I couldn't be happier with the bike, the photo above taken on 8/11.
Much if not most of the justification for me breaking my own rule was, I now intend to make most of my motorcycle (hauled) travels with my new (to me) truck. On that truck I've got a receiver-mounted carrier and I'd have loved nothing more than carrying my favorite Himalayan (still favorite) on it to my adventures. But I'm getting older, shorter and weaker....420 pounds compared to the Hawks girth of just over 300 is what forced my hand. I was up and down...a lot...considering the TW but mine is getting tired and really should get some updating that though it may deserve, can not justify. At almost 35 years old, the Hawk has it beat in what I consider many important ways. We'll see if they hold true.
As of today, 8/25, the 250 has 340 miles on it, two oil changes and a valve check. There's an almost guaranteed promise that by this evening it will have at least 400 miles on the clock. It will be Thursday, the 28th before this Post is public and by then the bike, truck and I will be riding, enjoying our annual Labor Day Wildcat Mtn rally. When we get home Labor Day evening the odometer will hopefully read in 4 digits. None of my friends know about the bike as of this writing (Paul, you promised??) but by Thursday this story will be out.
I really like the bike and I'm expecting much jealousy from its mates in the garage.
