June Is Firefly Month - 2025/06/20

Check out the incredible Fireflies on the video place.....

But before you go, your wait is definitely over.  I've been waiting 6 long months, that's right, 6 months exactly.  There's no telling how long You've been waiting?!

On December 20, 2024 I watched the sunrise....that is the first day of winter, the Winter Solstice, out our kitchen window, coffee in hand and noted its position on the horizon.  It was one bluff bump to the left of the Mississippi River Valley.

On March 20, 2025 the sun rose, from the same kitchen window about 2" give or take to the right of the large Burr Oak across the way.  Phone compass came out, angle from North noted.

This morning, June 20, 2025 a bit of extrapolation was in order.  We're in a valley, the nearby hill called for some Kentucky Windage (between MN and WI).  One more angle calculated.

This evening while enjoying the A/C inside on a very humid day outside, a map was imported into my favorite CAD program, lines drawn at the proper vectors extending  as far as I arbitrarily felt like to the east with accurate angles, at least according to an iPhone 16.

Here's what I came up with.....

Winter Solstice......Washington D.C.

March Equinox...... Ellsworth, ME

Summer Solstice ..... Cochrane, ONT

I'll bet that you're as surprised as I still am.  Next year, feel free to share yours.

That's all I've got to say about that.
