A very quiet Bayfield, the Apple Festival tourists long gone.....
Emil Road on the Red Cliff Reservation.....
Halvorson's in Cornucopia, Wisconsin. There will very soon be smoked White Fish in my saddlebag. The ST2 parked in front of Peg's grandfather's 'moored' fishing boat.
The Twin Sisters, named for Peg's twin Aunts.....
Chimney Road, Solon Springs....
I was in Bayfield for a couple days, saw Cornucopia only once, but recognized it in your photo right away.
ReplyDeleteThat would be an AWESOME ride up there. Wow. But I have to say the depth of silence and my awareness of wolves and bears scared me stupid.
Martha, my Halloween trips are one day of pretty intense riding; not always fast since I've done it on the slow bikes as well. There isn't much time available to stop and enjoy....mostly a Go day. The big animals don't get much of a chance to get a bearing on me, though the rides always end with an hour of darkness. A bad time to be on the roads in our neighborhood with the deer so active.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been a good season if you still could be out there riding on Halloween.
ReplyDeleteSonja, I did it 5 years in a row, just to show Old Man Winter that I wasn't afraid of him. We can have lovely end of October but up by Lake Superior, things can change quickly and be much cooler than they are this far away from the lake. Starting out around or below freezing is typical, as the day warms, I'm going north and the hope always is that the temps will rise more than the cooler temps north. Back in '09, it didn't change, I rode the entire trip in roughly the same temps....it was a cool one.
DeleteThat looks like a nice area to ride. Whether it be Halloween or earlier in the year. Although it is always nice not to have to dodge tourists.
ReplyDeleteThat area of Wisconsin is lovely and even when busy with tourists, just isn't that crowded. The economy of late has selfishly made it even easier to travel quietly.

ReplyDeleteBy the time Halloween rolls around it is very cold here. I know we can freeze our ears off if we don't wear head protection. 500 miles on backroads is indeed a long ride, no wonder you didn't have time to stop for photos
