I did it again, a last minute, Thursday evening break-away. In fact I broke away so fast that I forgot my mattress but still enjoyed my night in the woods. I had the campground almost completely to myself, the silence sure sounded that way. A very fine Friday morning ride home.
Bonus Footage at the end.
What is that scooter you are on?
ReplyDeleteHi Mike, in this Blog posting the bike is a '98 Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic.

DeleteThe one you took to Elkader.
ReplyDeleteAprilia Scarabeo 500 Touring
DeleteYou are getting very good at flying that drone.
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's not all me. A new Mini 2, flies longer, in more wind with better video and a 3 axis gimbal. 3 selectable speeds, the slowest one makes me look better than I am for video.
DeleteBest kind of campsite...one where you feel you have it to yourself.
ReplyDeleteIt's never been THAT empty before on any of my Thursday's, I was surprised. Definitely appreciated!
DeleteYou said you were taking an Italian bike to the rally. It's like a "1\2 pint" convert.
ReplyDeleteI like that!! An old friend has one, Nick Adams has one, Bones had one that I was interested in but his and my timing were off. This scooter was Rick's, the same guy that I bought the Morphous from and I was mostly committed to this one a few years ago.
DeleteHay Coop, I'm a little late to the party but I had to tell you. I stayed at Sportsman's Park Campground in Zumbro Falls. It has sites right on the river with beautiful views. It's not a secluded but you get more of a breeze. Might be worth checking out for a Thursday overnight. Also, there's a great pizza shop in town, I know you like pie. :)
ReplyDeleteSo many times past that place and never stopped. I have traveled the road on the other side of the river, enjoyed seeing the canoeists floating down river. I'll stop in and take a look, thank you!
DeleteHeard great things about that pizza place, another spot I haven't stopped at. Looking at the menu right now....I need to go there. A place I'd encourage you to stop is O'Neill's in Elgin. I will be returning there soon.
There's been another quick Thursday overnight down there and very possibly more by the time you seen them documented in a Post.
Thanks, I may have to take a trip down to Carley St Park, it's been a long time since I've stayed there. I'm heading off to Wyalusing this week with the camper and family in tow. I get down there often on the bike but it will be mostly new to them. Looking forward to sharing my spots. :)
DeleteEnjoy your Wyalusing weekend, that bluff camping and the view is phenomenal. For a time, I quit WI State Parks due to the non-resident premium. Last year I wanted to go back but lost patience with the online reservations. I'm surprised you were able to find a spot, book a long time ago?
DeleteI've been back to Carley since that VStar episode and might just return again Thursday night. Prior to my quick camps, we had only been there one time long ago with the kids to hike the trails. I'm enjoying it now since Whitewater is the popular place with all the cool stuff....but mid-week, Carley has offered quiet, private sites and close to home. The close to home part allows me to take the short way or a much longer way based on 'conditions'. ;)
I share your WI State Park woes. The park was chosen by my Mom and Dad as a meetup place for my brother's family and ours. It was booked long ago. The bathrooms and showers were very nice but it was a busy campground. As a family hangout, it served its purpose well. (you don't want to know what we spent on ice and firewood) Now I'm ready for a solo trip to someplace quiet. :)
ReplyDeleteBusy but beautiful, I easily remember the view overlooking PduC in the evening with the Ducati as a backdrop ;)
DeleteYou know we're expecting both you and your dad at Wildcat in Westby Labor Day weekend. An appearance fine, attendance even better. If you dad does return, he won't get away without me saying hello.
