GPS / Aerial / Video

I've done these before and thought I'd try this again for a few videos.  These 3 were taken on the Slimey Crud Run weekend.  You'll need Google Earth to see these properly.

The first one is Hemlock Lane, the last mile or so approaching Leland, the 2nd stop for the Slimey Crud gathering.  The crowd was still light.  My intention was to get a video while I was leaving when both sides of the street were packed; the crowd ginormous.  I ran out of battery for the Contour camera and had forgotten to grab battery #2.

    1. I have to agree. As a map and place studier it's a very impressive mix.......a new way of seeing movement.

    1. Thanks much for the confirmation. It seems to work as intended for me but I've been surprised before when others weren't seeing the same.

  3. The first one the map and the video seemed out of sync. But the others worked great. A great way for showing the video.

    1. I've seen some out of sync but thought it was just my slow home connection. Appreciate the feedback Richard!

  4. Coop - that was way too cool - my Google Earth was a bit out of sync as well ... but you all ended up in the same place. Could also be a sluggish connection.

    1. I'll have to try it some place where the connection is faster. I tried on my Kindle this weekend at the motel but there were compatibility issues, not just being slow.

I'm still intrigued by how the technologies work together and with the ease that even I can make it happen so easily.

    1. I'm going to try some other variations, rather than a helmet mounted camera I'll use one of my solid mounts. I was mindful of head movement and tried to minimize quick turns of my head. The lack of obvious elevation change in the video can be seen in "% Grade" but you've really got to be paying attention in the adjoining window. Using the software that came with the Countour camera, elevation is charted on a line graph and shows up easily.

A necessary tool?? No but I think it's pretty cool and can be utilized better than I've done to this point.
