Short Visit, Short Ride

I didn't venture far from home today though I did cross the river and ride in Wisconsin (again).  Mark and Mike are busy trying to get a '72 XS650 polished and ready to deliver to an anxious new owner in Kansas.

I had to park around the corner since all of the parking spots were full out in front; I guess in a college town students get hungry at noon on Sunday.

The guys did take the time to meet me at South Fork for the breakfast buffet at noon and thanks for breakfast Mark!  I followed them over to the shop and mostly stood in the way while they continued work on the pretty red and white bike. This evening I learned that they had it running and put a few miles on it by  late afternoon.

Anxious to do some local riding, I left them to their business.

I wandered today with no plan, playing with some new-to-me functions on the GPS.

I'm thinking that our leaves must be just about at their peak though that may depend on whether we have a wet or windy week.

After a coffee and cookie stop, I rode in the shadows of the MN bluffs along the Mississippi, too stubborn to stop and put another layer on as I headed for home.

It is that time of year.

  1. Really like that last picture. The bike color is perfect with the trees.

No rides for us this weekend. We're trying to get a roof on our deck before the rains come back. Only 5 more sheets of poly carb to go......

    1. Thank you, it was a very pretty place to pull over. I hadn't seen a car for an hour on those roads and naturally, I had just walked back to take the shot when one came by.

I'm glad that someone got something done this weekend :)

  2. By the time I get over to that part of the state those lovely dirt roads will be covered in snow. 33 degrees this AM.

A guy on roller skis just now rolled by my house. Summer's done.

    1. We had a thick layer of frost yesterday ( long before I started on my ride) and this morning it was doing its best to be thick. By sunrise it maybe did get thick.

Look at the shadow of the scooter.......1:00, 1:30 at the latest when this was taken and see how 'tall' the scooter is on the ground.

Summer IS done, no question about it.

    1. Thanks Sonja, I really enjoy being outside on these days; sunny and warm on the windward side, shady and cool on the leeward side.

  4. Coop:

Your leaves are sort of like ours, with just a bit of yellow. I think I would like to ride some of those roads too. Peaceful with no traffic until you decide to snap a photo

  5. Bob, next time you're in the Midwest, I'll share some of my favorites with you, all easily done on whatever you arrive on (or in).

    1. Thanks B.R., I know you'd like to spend time riding in this neighborhood. Wisconsin's Rustic Road program highlights many of the good ones, but there are many, many that aren't even included and more fun to ride.

  9. Thanks Scott. I haven't given up on the season yet, the Swan Ride is coming up on the 3rd. I should be able to do some very local gravel regardless.
