With so many other things to take care of in light of being gone on the scooter the entire Labor Day weekend, I kept my ride to a nice 105 miles today. Not starting early, breakfast in Alma was busy and had it not been for my being the perfect candidate for the solo table in the corner, I'd have waited in line. Breakfast was good as always, the wait staff on their toes keeping the customers moving through.
I mixed some gravel in today, more than I've normally done on the Morphous but the long and low Yamaha doesn't seem to mind, handling well enough in the small rocks. Stopping for only one photo today, it happened on Serum Road. The only unique thing about today's ride was that I did the long stretch of quiet gravel in the westerly direction, possibly the very first time, at least that I can remember. Seems I've always done it from the other end.
A short work week will see me on the road early Friday, heading for our annual Wildcat Mountain Rally. Easily arriving by late morning, I'll have a chance for plenty of Vernon County riding in the afternoon, then gather back at the rally site to say hello to many old friends I won't have seen since last year's gathering. Saturday we'll all join for breakfast, then split up into small groups to enjoy the area roads. Sunday I'll be leading the "Smell the Roses" ride, purposely following some of the narrowest and most crooked paved roads at a slow and leisurely pace. We'll stop at various places, do a lunch and ice cream stop and still leave time for another shorter loop to allow everyone back for the evening banquet and plenty of socializing after. After breakfast Monday morning, we split for home.
I can't wait!

MN Guzzi Rally; a short visit
Normally I'd have gone for the weekend and arrived Friday afternoon, but someone (many) had overbooked this weekend, so I was only able to get away for the day. Perfect is descriptive enough to describe the weather we enjoyed, though it was a bit of a cool start for what I'm still going to get away with calling a mid-August day. Our thermometer said 48 degrees this morning, so between all of the things going on and the cool air outside, I wasn't in a huge rush to be on the road at sunrise.
Left at 8AM and arrived in Money Creek just before 10. I was disappointed to not to see a certain Dave and Gene there, but there were a couple of other Dave's that I hadn't seen in too long to make up for it. Having not seen Tony (and brother) for a couple of years, it was great to spend time catching up with them. Les and crew were there, Ernie decided to make it a riding weekend rather than a vending one and Steve came up from Iowa on his Guzzi. Tim and his wife even stopped by for a visit, though they were in a convertible for an area reunion and not on the BMW.
John decided to leave his RS100 home and bring the hack instead.
Various modifications and adaptations, justified and proven by years as well as miles of use.
A nice, clean Cagiva SS650.......
Dave and Justin arrived just after noon and found various kindred side car enthusiasts.....
A quiet registration area since most riders were out making appropriate use of the area's great roads in the beautiful weather.
Steve's Iowa Guzzi.....
Dave and I decided it was time to head for home. We headed up the hill, not paying attention to the Road Closed signs, riding through some real construction on the Rushford side of the hill. Stopping for a late lunch at The Creamery, then headed for home with a nice mix of County roads and gravel, parting near Elgin, I heading back to Frontenac. 189 miles on the Morphous today.

(Now) The Hyo Goes Italian - Wisconsin Guzzi Rally
Last year, some of the guys (ADV riders, primarily BMW) joked that the rally was almost more of a German event than Italian; there were many non-Guzzi's there and this year wasn't much different. While there
The GT250R was loaded Thursday night, ready for an early Friday departure. On the road by 8AM, the first stop was breakfast in Alma at Pier 4. Down the Wisconsin side only as far as Fountain City where I crossed over to Winona and south from there as far as McGregor. A brief photo stop in the park above Lansing and then on to Bloomington, Lancaster, Rewey and to Lake Joy, riding past but not stopping at the original Wisconsin Capital site. Gene had been there a couple of hours already but with a new tent, so it took me a bit to even discover him at the shelter tent. Dave wouldn't arrive for a couple of hours.
My Hyosung in front of the tent, John's KS KLR front wheel to the left, an ST Honda in front of me, a Triumph beyond that and Mog's KLR beyond that. On the other side of the access lane are Nebraska Dan's new Tiger, Nebraska Al's Guzzi and the BMW's of Dave and Gene.
Dan with a smile on his face, like me, he'd waited for some better evening camera light.
Friday evening "round the circle" time......
Gene's 'new' tent.......he wasn't very happy with it and has returned it by now.
Ernie set up for Saturday vending......
After a very leisurely start Saturday morning, Gene, Dave and I headed west to Potosi, using County and named roads to sneak into the river's-edge town. I think both guys were surprised when I rode right past the planned brewery stop, sneaking under the railroad viaduct and out into the river on the gravel road. Dave managed to engage a guy that was in his van, quietly reading the sports pages with some local questions and an analysis of the guy's head of hair. The three of discussed the river, whether or not is was flowing north or south (finally there was agreement) and then we headed back into town for lunch at the brewery.
Original planning called for lunch and then a brewery tour, but between the looming rain showers and a couple of poorly planned gas stops, we'd used enough time that the the brewery tour didn't quite sound like it was worth the $3 or our time, so we headed back to Lake Joy via County O. We hadn't been back at camp very long before the showers came.
The Pennsylvania Marines(?) must have sent this to keep us protected......it wasn't a Guzzi either.
This bike from Texas.....he received long distance award as I remember it......
Comfy, cozy under the tent during the few hours of afternoon rain showers.
Darrel, Glen and Paul staying dry......
Lined up and getting 'rinsed' off.....
Saturday evening turned lovely, the air drier and cooler, the sky overnight cloudless and bright enough with moonlight to find the beer trailer without needing a torch. Sunday was crisp and cool, reminding me of a mid-September morning especially considering the hot weather we've been used to. Attendees were really clearing out, by 8 the majority were headed home. My goal was 9AM to be packed up, but in no hurry, I took my time and waited for Gene and Dave to be ready. They were going to stop in Mineral Point for breakfast, I declined and was anxious to make the 220 mile ride home.
Gene and Dave packing.......
Gene and Dave mostly packed......
Traveling light, my setup never takes very long to go up or down.....
Dan and his new-to-him Triumph finishing up.....
Most everyone gone......
I soon was as well. A quick convenience store sandwich in Lansing, an ice cream cone in Nelson and then home to Frontenac. 540 miles for the weekend, another really nice rally and a great ride on the GT250R.
